Here is a Glossary of Terms used on this site to help you better understand our Techspeak.
Back-End - The Administrative interface of the Content Management System that runs your website.
Database – The digital structure wherein the data for your web page are stored on the server.
DAM – The Digital Asset Management System is similar to an advanced database system that can offer more capabilities such as Meta data tags and advanced search capability.
Domain – The address which refers to the server where your web page is physically stored. You may recognize a domain such as Slipcasemedia.com.
Front-End – The actual web site that your visitors see.
Hosting – The act of supplying the data storage and bandwidth needed to serve a web site domain.
XHTML – eXtensible Hyper Text Markup Language is the structural markup that makes web page content understandable for a web browser.
Javascript – A scripting language run within the browser to add interactivity to web pages.
Image Lightbox – An attractive visual style of presenting media to a user.
Meta Data – Literally, data about data. This could be, for example, a tag on an image of yours that references the time, date, location, or anything else about that image.
Server – The physical machine where the data is stored and retrieved for a domain.
Style Guide – Defines the way your web presence will be displayed including such things as fonts, colors, and visual styles.
